One of the games I used to play while I was at a college fair was to try and pick out which girl I was. I always found myself somewhere between the girl decked out in her Nike Tempo shorts with miss matched shirt and Miss High Maintenance. Back then I hadn't quite developed a taste for mixing color and patterns yet, but I did have a deep love for hair spray and teased hair!
When I had the chance to read Jen Lancaster's Here I Go Again to take myself back to the good ole' high school days, I jumped at it!
Here's a little bit about the book:
Twenty years after ruling the halls of her suburban Chicago high school, Lissy Ryder doesn’t understand why her glory days ended. Back then, she was worshipped...beloved...feared. Present day, not so much. She’s been pink-slipped from her high-paying job, dumped by her husband and kicked out of her condo. Now, at thirty-seven, she’s struggling to start a business out of her parents’ garage and sleeping under the hair-band posters in her old bedroom.
Lissy finally realizes karma is the only b* bigger than she was. Her present is miserable because of her past. But it’s not like she can go back in time and change who she was...or can she?
I've read a few of Jen's books before and this was one of my favorites! I actually ended up reading it in about three hours one Friday night because I could not put it down. No matter who you were in high school: the mean girl, the nice friend, the outsider or maybe someone who wasn't even noticed, everyone can relate to someone in the book. I spent all night laughing and reminiscing about my own high school days. I will give you a heads up that there is some language in the book. It wasn't enough to keep me from reading, but wanted to make sure you knew in case that is important to you.
If you want to read a little bit of the book, check out Jen's blog. And if you live in town and want to borrow the book, let me know!
