Quick Update

I've heard through the grapevine that I am not updating my Twitter enough and people are needing to know how I'm doing. (Of course, the emphasis on needing was all me.) I don't have a real reason for not posting updates, as I'm certainly not doing much during the day. I think that is the main reason I'm not posting: it's almost embarrassing how empty my days are.

I wake up around 9:30 (though it's getting closer to 10 everyday...)
I wait for my mom to get home from her walk, then she goes with me on my walk.
After that I come home, eat breakfast and take the morning meds, the shower and clean up.
By the time I'm looking presentable for the day, I've used up enough energy that it's time for me to rest again. Depending on how I'm feeling and what the weather's like, we may end up going to a public place (the mall, Wal-Mart, etc.) so that I can get in some more walking time.

Walking is the only requirement of my days right now. My cardiologist wants me to work up to being able to walk 30 mins plus. Currently I'm hovering around 25 minutes, though I might be able to make it longer if the wind would calm down. I am almost ashamed to tell you that I am taking a walk. Because some days, it's not even a stroll. You know it's really slow when your dog, who's legs are four inches longs, stops and gives you a look like "Really Mom, you can't kick it up a notch?" This surgery has definitely put a lot of things into perspective! I used to think that I didn't have that much muscle and that I was a very slow runner. After the very sore muscles from surgery and walking a 26 minute mile, I will not take my health for granted again!

All in all I am doing really good. I wish I had a more creative answer for people when they ask how things are going. I am doing good, but I still have my slow days. My mom and I were talking earlier and she and I both agree, even though they tell you "You're going to have to take it slow, even simple tasks like getting ready are going to wear you out, take you time doing things..." that's supposed to happen to other people, not me. Especially not me because I'm so young and healthy.

Well, it is happening to me. And it can be discouraging to have a really good day on Monday and then two really tired days afterwards. But I'm trying to stay focused on the good things that happen. I get focused on the fact that yesterday (Tuesday) marked three weeks since surgery. So I see the number and think that I should be better by now. I forget that I did have a few set backs in the hospital which have probably contributed to a slower recovery, at least slower than I think it should be.

All in all I am doing good. I've finished several books, copied lots of my mom's recipes and am about to work my way through some magazines people gave me. Slowly but surely I will get my strength back. Until then I'm just going to enjoy every day!

Hope this catches you up!
